Just looking for some advice as don't know what to do. My dad is an alcoholic but functioned until he retired and now he has lost control. He had quadruple heart bypass in February this year and the whole family thought that this would mean a new start. But it's worse now. He has been prescribed anxiety pills and is drinking as well so is sleeping most of the day. My poor mum is at her wits end and is on anxiety pills now as well. I don't think my dad will change but looking for advice on how to support my mum

You poor thing, you are going through it.

But You are NOT responsible for him and so try and stop stressing yourself. You need to stay mentally strong, otherwise you will be on anxiety Meds as well, and he will still be self destructing.

He has had serious surgery and he still hasn't got the message.!

So stay calm, don't get too involved. Listen to your Mum when she off loads and empathise with her. That's about all you can do. A mindful course would help you cope.

I would also try and help her with her finances and see that all the paperwork was in order. Look to the future, as the way he is behaving he is shortening his life. Sorry
