Question for single adoptors - help please!

Hi - I am 48 and single and approached my local council re the possibility of adopting.
I had a meeting with them and they declined to assess me as they felt my support network was not strong enough. None of my family live close to me. The adoption team said that the support network generally falls to family not friends.
Does anyone have any similar experiences of being turned down for assessment because of support networks. I wondered what happens if people don't have any or much family. Would love to hear of anyone's experiences!
Many thanks

sorry - though I am a single adopter I have a couple of family members close by. SW's are very hot on support though I have known them to accept support of friends rather than family but can't give any direct experience of that.

You might like to try joining Adoption UK - there a single forum on there and they may be able to help you. There aren;t many single adopters on MN (unless they are hiding in teh woodwork somewhere!)
