Time from placement to legal adoption

Is it always the same amount of time from when the child goes to live with their new parents to when they become legally theirs?

Hi nabster - it can vary greatly from one adoption to another. Ages of children, legal situation and how well the placement is going will all impact on when an aoption order is applied for. Our Ds was placed with us in the February and we had our court order approved in the October.

Thanks for that.

Ours was just six months, but that was exceptionally quick - we were told to expect 12 months if it was straightforward and longer if contested.

It also depends on how long the waiting list for a court date is. Even if you apply for an adoption order very soon after a child is placed you could be waiting for 8 or 9 months to actually go to court.

minimum amount of time to be placed for adoption before final adoption hearing is 13 weeks iirc. It can in some exceptional cases be 3+ years. Anerage I would say would be about 9 months. This is obviously different if the placement is a concurrent one.

12 months for us.

19 months for us - delayed due to illness of preciding (if that is correct term) of the judge.
