Finding biological father - any similar experiences??

I found out about a year ago that the man I thought was my biological father is not and that I am in fact the result of a short fling my mum had whilst away from home.

I don't want to go over the whole story just now but I just wondered if anyone had had any success in finding a biological father with limited information?

What I know is: his name (although unsure of the spelling , the town he was living in at the time, the kind of job he was doing, his approximate age (early 60s now).

Obviously adoption people can't help me, his name's not on my birth certificate and I basically don't want to drag this all up (my siblings don't know and although my dad knows about the affair and him and my mum split a few years ago we haven't talked about it) if it's going to be completely fruitless.

Any experiences, positive or negative, are welcome, thanks in advance.

sorry nelly, that must have been a shock for you

you could search the records of birth death and marriages and get an accurate name and dob for him, then check for marriages, other children and deaths. also the electoral rolls

some occupations have official registers you can check eg nurses, chartered engineers or surveyors

yes i have.
not sure how I did it, but i found all the names I could on the internet and sent an email with information about my birthday, where I was born, first name, and mothers first name to all the names, and asking if they were my father, possibly?
I got about 10 replies, one of which turned out to be my real father!
It took about a year, but can happen.
Good luck its an emotional ride!
