I am more than happy to research anything and everything, whatever will help us...but any suggestions as to what and where would be good.

I have started by using Google to look for adoption in the news but seem to be coming up with pretty old articles and nothing vey recent.

Our SW just said buy some papers and read them, sometimes they have adoption articles in them........

TIA.

Take out a subscription to the Adoption UK magazine which has great articles about people's experiences of adoption and is very up to date with adoption related news. They also produce a supplementary magazine called Children who Wait which is similar to Be My Parent.

I have a book by BAAF called Adopting a Child which I would be happy to send you if you want, it's pretty basic though and it's probably mostly stuff that you already know.

Your SW sounds a little lame tbh, what's the point of telling someone to read up and not having a suggested reading list?

Thank you all.
Our SW seems very nice but I have to say we were a little bemused by that parting comment!

I think I will subscribe to Adoption UK.
Bran...that's VERY kind of you to offer your book. I think she's talking about 'newsy' things rather than facts (although I will try and read other books to prepare us as well) and we got the impression that she was really trying to help us.....but didn't!!

You have all come up with MUCH more useful suggestions!!!

I've got a friend of a friend locally who adopted several years ago...I'll ask her if she has that book first to save you the p&p (and hastle!!).
T-Y.

IIRC I was asked to do something similar - ie look for newspaper articles to see how adoption is viewd in the media. There has been a few recent articles in the Mial and a response in the guardian though this does focus on intercountry adoption it touches on domestic too.

If you can find them by searching let me know I think I have a link somewhere.

Adoption UK also have a great website with a lively discussion board. Lots of useful insights from people at all different stages in the process.
