ive just had a phonecall to say that somebody from childrens services is visiting on monday regarding dh's application to adopt ds2.

am crapping myself-what should i expect?

can't remember offhand as did the same thing when I was a kid but do remember it was quite low key -came to chat to us at home, watched us colouring etc with my dad.

she is coming to speak to dh and i first and will see ds at another time she said.dh thinks im daft for getting nervous.

can't blame you though - although would agree that nothing to be frightened of. I cant remember it being more than a formality but was only about 8 at the time.

i guess they will ask

-why DH wants to adopt ds
-do you both uunderstand the nature of an adoption order
-have you thought about things like PRO rather than adoption
-DS relationhship/knowledge/understanding of his biological father

  • how that might change in the future
  • what Ds understands about being adopted
  • DH relationship with Ds
  • when you and your Dh met, history of your realtionship
-any previous marriages / other children

they might also ask factual questions that they need for their report eg your financial situation, if he has any criminal record, insurances you might have

Dont worry too much about tidying the house, unless its really REALLY messy. more inmportant that you talk to each other about the kind of things they might ask you about
