Hi

we recently adopted a little boy, adoption order granted late December and order received from the court first week in Jan by recorded post.

since we have heard nothing and the agency can’t answer how we get a certificate or order a passport. the agency said they would sort his passport but they have been saying that since we brought him home on foster to adopt.

has anyone gone through this and able to
advise how they got a hold of the long certificate without a GRO code.

If you now have the adoption order, it is up to you to apply gor a passport.

Before that though, you will need the 'long' certificate - which, from memory, you also apply for direct.

Go to the gov.uk website, search for adoption and somewhere on there is a link to apply for the certificate (right down at the bottom of the page I think). Apply for more than one copy as you have to send a real one off for the first passport application.

Good luck - and congratulations on the adoption order.

Without the gro code the adoption cert is unlikely to be processed. The gro need the paperwork from the court before they will sort the adoption cert.

On the gro website I filled in all the details using my daughters name, our names, date of adoption order, county etc and paid for the certs, a few days after the adoption order was granted, so by passing the gro number.

the gro contacted me a few days later and said that they could not send me the docs until they had the paperwork they need from the court, which took a month ish

once the gro had the docs from the court they will send you a letter confirming the gro number to sort the adoption cert.

we also had a new nhs number sent to us in the post, all happened behind the scenes

Thanks for the replies, just thought I’d update the thread incase anyone comes across it with similar issue.

the GRO letter arrived this Monday, so took just over two months to arrive. The NHS has also been notified and little ones record made inactive, still waiting for his new NHS number but seems things are moving 😊

it really is one to consider especially for those who maybe where naive enough to think that post order you would quickly be able to get a passport.
