Already have a DS, does adoption work?

I have 6 year old son. My husband and I feel we have more love to give. Unfortunately having a biological child isn't a possibility. We have been discussing adopting a child, but I wasn't sure if us having a biological child already would mean we wouldn't be considered. Is this the case? Is there anything I'd need to take into consideration?

People do adopt with birth children.

Thing is, you are taking on a child from a challenging background. Love isn't always enough.

I suggest you look into adoption in more detail.

I’d echo what @Arran2024 said, there is a huge risk which I didn’t quite appreciate before adopting. I have both a birth child and adoptive child. Happy to chat @labamba007 through private message. (I don’t like posting too much publicly).

Same here. Have a birth child who was also 6 when we started the adoption journey. Now have an adoptive child too, been with us for a year. Happy to chat if you want to DM.

Having love to give is nice... But it's pretty worthless tbh when it comes to adoption. After all the birth parents love them....
You'd be putting your ds at risk. From verbal abuse, from physical abuse, from emotional abuse. I wish someone had really spelt that out to me.
Practically you'll be behind all the other would be adopters who can focus all their attention on the child. Being a sahp would be a bonus.
