Hi I’m just after a little bit of advise I have been with my partner for 12 years I have a son who is 11 from a previous relationship biological father has nothing to do with him, hasn’t seen him since he was 2. Partner has bought our son up as his own he is now wanting to adopt our son. Biological dad has long line of convictions including violence and lots of none domestic would the judge look into his violent past? And would this take part in the judges decision?

@Kayaderwent00

Sorry you haven't had any replies.
I'm no expert on this but the process will involve a Social worker doing a report. The adoption has to be in the best interests of the child so relevant information will be taken into account. Given your son's age I would think his views will also be taken into account.

The permission of your ex will also be sought.

They will need to trace your ex to seek permission for adoption. His violence is relevant in that I'd expect the process to protect your whereabouts if he's likely to present a threat to you or your child. If they can't trace him the court might progress the adoption if it's in your son's best interests but they would need to evidence that he can't be traced.
