Adoption Allowance

My LO has been with me just under 2 years, he'll be 6 in Sept. He is gorgeous and I love him but dealing with his behaviour is a struggle. He hits and kicks out, bites and pulls my hair when he gets dysregulated. I reduced work down to four days a week a few months ago but it was still too much so I've been signed off sick with stress for the last month. I get a top up from universal credit every month and my son is receipt of DLA so I didn't think I'd be entitled to anything else but my new social worker has sent forms for adoption Allowance, for now and also if I need to reduce my hours or even give up work. Has anyone else been in this situation before? I, generally, enjoy my job so don't want to give it up.

DLA and UC are statutory benefits. Adoption allowance is not a benefit and is entirely at the discretion of the LA and is incredibly difficult to get. I

If you are offered it, take it. It does not affect your other benefits.
I had an adoption allowance and it was a lifesaver, it’s what really enabled me to work part time. It meant I didnt have to use the DLA for living costs, instead I could buy in things I really needed for my son.
I’d agree with you about not giving up work if possible - it gives you some space and normality. But maybe you could drop to 3 days a week?
