Medicals

Hi

would anyone who has been through the adoption process know if medicals are rerun/checked again after panel approval. I.e do you have to go for another medical/ have your notes released for the child placement panel.

For most people they would just need to do one medical as part of stage 1 of the approval process. I have a feeling I might have done a shorter rerun of the medical further down the line, but it was only because I waited a long time between approval and matching so when I was being matched my medical was nearly two years old. I can't remember now if I ended up redoing it, or if it was just mentioned that I might have to if I reached two years without having gone through matching. That period all seems a bit of a blur now. In general one medical is fine for most people though.

Hi @Brendaloves
Yes my agency asks you to fill in a new medical form, not sure if its the exact same as the original one but very similar. And they then send this to the GP to cross check against their records and say if they still believe I'm suitable to adopt. This is done after placement prior to making the AO (and annually but that's only because I'm 2 years into placement without yet applying for AO, obviously for most people it's alot quicker).

My understanding is that this is the case for everyone, not just my agency but I could be wrong.

You have to have a medical every two years. We ended up having to do another medical even though at the time we were post placement but pre adoption order.
i was a bit put out to be honest as felt by that time we should have been done filling in infuriating forms and jumping though hoops. But it is what it is.

i think after a year we had to self certify something about our health too but can’t properly remember.
Was not a requirement for matching panel though.

One of the recommendations from the SCR following the death of Leiland-James Corkhill was that medical reports are requested again if there is a delay between approval and matching, so I’d expect you would be asked to provide an updated medical if there’s more than a year delay.

Thanks everyone we have been asked so was just wondering if it was standard, as they made a thing of BMI in the initial medical even thought husband is actually body builder type and far from over weight in an unhealthy way

I don’t recall getting any heat from the second medical when I very much did from the first one. Despite the fact that little had changed. The second one felt very much a box ticking exercise.
So hopefully this will be the same for your husband.
