Hello! Me and my husband are currently starting the adoption process and we are really struggling with our doctor surgery understanding what we mean with the health check I've shown them all documents and all I've gotten has been we've never seen these before! I've been trying since October as we have to have our application in soon and wanted it sorted however I was told to wait until the new year and today I've been told it's already a ten week waitlist and to come back tomorrow to sort it out I just don't think they actually understand what I'm asking of them unfortunately.
My question is can I go private for this health report or does have to be my gp?
Thanks xx

I could have written this a few years ago!

It has to be your GP, and the only way we got it done was making a complaint to the practice manager. It’s a common experience and very frustrating!

Hi can you get your social worker to call the surgery and explain the importance of the medicals and the consequences of them not being sorted, I.e stops you being able to adopt. We had a similar issue when we needed the doctors to write a letter the second time we were approved and them taking to long to sort it and our social worker gave them a call laying out what needed to be done and why.

we looked at going private the third time we needed our gp to sort forms as our gp was off sick and was the only one in the practice allowed to do the form, and we needed everything completed quickly as it was a fast track type of situation. However your surgery has to release your records to the private company as they have to have your full records to complete the form, and there is usually a box the doctor has to tick confirming they have access to the full records, and research suggested this could take ages to be sorted and it wasn’t worth it x

We've been trying to get in contact with our social worker but with it being Christmas and new years he's still on annual leave! Thank you guys for your reply's, such a shame that this seems to be a common thing :(

I complained to the practice manager and they still refused to do my medical. It was very frustrating as they were acting against all professional guidance.
I ended up changing surgeries in the end in order to get it done. So might be worth considering that as an option.
