Adopting an orphaned family member

Has anyone had experience adopting or becoming legal guardians of a family member that has been orphaned. Particularly if they live oversees?

What is the process like (paperwork/checks etc) and how long can it take? What do you need to have in place to prove you are fit to take this on?

Your local council is the first step. Hope it goes well Flowers

@Orangeandgold

If the child is a citizen of another country then the UK authorities will not have the powers to enable you to adopt them.
You will need to look at the adoption procedures in the home country and in addition to whether, if you can adopt them, you can then bring the child into the country
It won't be easy !

@Orangeandgold

Sorry, my post should have read 'MAY not have the power'
Processes obviously differ from country to country
