Adoption reference

I have been asked if I would be happy to provide a reference for a friend who is wanting to adopt a child. Does anyone know what sort of questions they will ask me?

Usually they ask if you think they will make good parents; what are their strengths and weaknesses in your view - individually and as a couple; how they support each other as a couple; if you support their adoption and think they will make good parents; if they have spoken to you about their adoption and what they have told you (eg. have you spoken about trauma and therapeutic parenting?); if you have watched them around children and what you noticed (did the children like them? Did they make an effort with the children? Were they playful/ creative /fun/ confident/ empathetic etc?).

They might also ask how you know them, how long you have known them, what your relationship with them is like (do you work together, are you in the same running club, are you very close, are they open with you or not etc); if you are planning to practically support them once they have children. If they have any health issues, they might ask you how you have seen them handle these (only in case the social worker knows that you know about these issues). You probably won't be asked all of these questions, but those might be themes.

Thank you @onlytherain for the information

If you were looking at being open transracial adoption, they may ask your references about how they think you would cope with the nuances of that as well

Ours were also asked how we handled stressful situations together and individually

I am not sure if they are going for an open adoption or a transracial adoption. They haven’t told me what type of adoption they are looking at just if I would provide a reference for them. I am worried about the type of questions they will ask me no don’t want to delay what is a stressful situation
