Reception Sept 2023

Hi, I've been waiting all day to hear from the LA regarding my son's reception place for September. I hadn't heard anything by the end of the working day so I thought I'd look on the application page to see if there was any update on there. Nothing. Except my son's information is still his birth name. I applied in Oct but didn't get the adoption order and new birth cert until Feb so I emailed them to say his details had changed and asked if this would cause any issues with the application. They assured me it wouldn't and confirmed that his details had been changed. I've emailed them this evening but I'm worried now that we've missed out. The school I want him to attend is the school I work in, and we live in the catchment area (closest Welsh medium school where he's been attending the nursery since Sept). Anyone dealt with something like this and can give me some advice?

OK. Well either way your DC should have got priority as either a LAC or as an ex LAC so something has gone wrong anyway.

I would phone them first thing today and speak to someone. Have the emails you sent to hand to quote from.

I will tag @prh47bridge as they are very experienced in admissions but won't be checking out the adoption board.

In England, if this is their mistake they should take your child on as an excepted child without an appeal being needed. I think Wales is the same but can't promise.

Yes, it is the same in Wales. If a mistake has been made (and it certainly sounds like it has been), your child can be admitted without an appeal. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean they will be. Many admission authorities insist on an appeal even when it is obvious that a mistake has been made. They want to blame the appeal panel for the class being over size rather than admit they messed up.

Good luck.

Hiya, i spoke to head this morning who wouldn't tell me anything and another mother who'd had her email first thing yesterday. by the time I got home I'd received an email reply and a letter to confirm he'd had a place but no explanation as to why I hadn't received it yesterday.
