Hi, so we had the adoption order granted this week 😀 I know it can take a while until the nhs name change etc but does anybody know what happens if we have upcoming appointments? LO has regular appointments with the orthoptics team at the hospital and we also have an appointment coming up at the end of this month with the audiology clinic (we've been waiting for this since he moved home in July so don't want any more delays). Thanks

For us, I went in and updated the new name with the GP, but this didnt get through to already made referrals, which meant when we were in the waiting room for that referral the nurse called out her old surname, which was unhelpful for her as weve been calling her by new surname for months and months now. I was then very impressed by the consultant himself though, as he had clearly realised when reading the notes, and called her by first name only, which I thought was really nice. So anyway, maybe its just a slow process. They did give me at that appointment a number to ring to update on their own system but as the investigation finished there I didnt bother. Now, she is only known in the systems as her new name as referrals would go from GP etc who all have the new surname. Sorry, thats a waffle and not definite, as Im sure systems differ??

It’s a total pain. Change it via your GP but prepare for it to take a lonnnnnng time to filter through to specialist appointments etc

Our adoption order for DD went through five years ago, I thought we were out of the word name-wise, but I recently received a letter in her old name, inviting her for her polio jab. I still don’t know how this happened.

I cant even get my address changed so good luck! These things take an incredible amount of time and even when you think youve done it someone will have the wrong info.
