Post-adoption support in Scotland

Hello
I’m a long in the tooth adopter in England. For family reasons we’re considering a move back to Scotland, but I don’t want to move away from the support we’ve finally got in place for our eldest.

Can someone tell me about support in Scotland, please? Can applications still be made to the ASF? (At the minute she’s having DDP therapy, which all other things being equal would continue into adulthood…)

Thanks!

Post adoption support in Scotland works very differently, there’s no Post Adoption Support fund as such, post adoption support responsibilities sit with the placing local authority for the first 3 years and then transfers to the resident local authority if different to the placing authority. If you move into a new area it can be tricky to get your new local authority involved in post adoption support - some are better than others.

In saying that I’ve managed to get necessary supports in place via community paediatrics, Ed psych and CAMHS, it’s been a lengthy process but effective. Do you know where you’d be planning to move to - I’d contact the fostering and adoption team in your chosen area and discuss with them how you transfer in.

It’s possible to get long term therapy for adoption issues via CAMHS (my DD is also doing DDP which will likely last through her high school years) but you’ll need to make a case for it.

Thanks @Jellycatspyjamas

I posted this, completely forgot about it and then found myself wondering all the same stuff again. 🙄

Still thinking about it…
