My last ever "a year ago today" thread...

but a year ago today we finally arrived home.

Thanks to all the lovely mumsnetters who supported me and my lovely DS, for the food and comforts parcel couriered over to us in Almaty and the lovely parcel from the BigMoFo's when we got home and for all the lovely comments on my blog. I love you all! (can you tell I'm feeling emotional?!)

Time to start thinking about number 2?

I followed your story kewcumber, like others said I can't belive it's been a year. Your photos are so lovely. I don't often believe people who say they are 'welling up' reading things on here but I was back then and am now....

Go on, go for number 2

(ps and I also admire all the no-nonsense advice you give in the nature/nurture discussions and whenever the question of 'real' parents comes up- my two are adopted but if anyone called them my 'adopted children', I'd brain them)

Kewcumber · 23/01/2008 16:41

I am slightly amazed by the number of people who appear to have followed that blog (though don't know why as it has had over 80,000 hits!).

I wish I could recall being wise on nature/nuture debates

Absolutely know what you mean about the "adopted" label. Have told my family that if DS is referred to in my obituary as my "adopted" DS then I will come back and haunt them all.

moi a CM, kew? blimey, no, far too much responsibility looking after other people's children..

hmmm, you must tell me more avout your cunning plan sometime...

ComeOVeneer · 23/01/2008 17:46

Congrats Kew. I had an inkling (sp) that it was sometime this week. What a year eh. Sadly I haven't seen him as often as I would like, but now ds is at nursery and dd full time school the school runs really cut into the day.

Thinking ahead slightly, can I offload some clothes your way for the summer? What size is/will ds be in then do you think?

Kewcumber · 23/01/2008 19:48

my gues would be 2/3 - he's a smallish 2 now.

Will do steppie - fill you in that is...(pats side of nose with finger )

newyorkdolls · 23/01/2008 21:32

mehdismummy · 23/01/2008 21:47

my friend is called heidi and ds has recently learnt to say it. He says it about twenty times an hour!

mehdismummy · 23/01/2008 22:42

kew what an amazing selfless remarkable human being you are. Just read your story a year on and cried like a bitch! I wish you many happy years together and just wanted to say that you are lucky to have such a great role model in your own mum. I am sure its through her guidance that you have turned into the bright. Kind loving lady you are today. The world needs more people like you x

oldnewmummy · 24/01/2008 04:58

beemail · 25/01/2008 18:07

hi Kew yes don't seem to get on mn as often these days - teenagers and nearly teenagers!! My evenings justs seem to evaporate and as for weekends have new job as taxi driver!! Love it all though and still can't believe how lucky we are!!!

Kewcumber · 25/01/2008 23:02

mehdismummy - I know you meant your comment kindly but a few people on this thread know be in real life and are probably silently wetting their knickers at your description of me as being "self-less" (have no problem with amazing or remarkable ). Adopting DS was the most selfish and least self-less thing I have ever done. Of course since he has become mine, I have become much more self-less... but then lets be honest, when we love our children, don't we all?
