Hi,

I cant find the previous threads about this so...

Can people point me towards the names of good private Facebook groups for Adopters. I know about NAOTP.

Not sure if the answers should be posted here or via PM ?

TIA.

POTATO (parents of traumatised adopted teens only )is a closed FB group . Contact via thepotatogroup.org.uk.
Not all the children are teens so don't be put off by the name it is where the group had its beginnings.

YAWN (you've adopted, what now)

Thanks @Trainham

I have checked this out with the group. The child(ren)/young people need to be 10/11 or above. So I'll need to wait a few years before joining this group.

Thanks @poppetandmog This group doesnt seem to have a process of verifying that you are an Adopter. So how would you know that only genuine Adopters are in the group ? It just asks you to state how long your child has been home. Unless I am missing something.

Attachment disorder U.K. (parents/carers of children with ad)

@abc121 there is no way to verify whether someone is who they say they are. Just like no one one this board has ever had their status regarding adoption verified by mumsnet and here anyone can post without the protection of it being a private group.

There are groups that I've refused to join as they want profile pictures and privacy settings altered to verify who you are. I won't do that because I don't know who they are or how long it will take. I have a totally separate Facebook account for my adoption groups with a pseudonym to protect my and my children's privacy.

The members themselves are very quick to recognise people who shouldn't be on there and get them booted out by admin.

Thanks @toopicky I didn't know that anyone can join closed Adoption FB groups.

The ones I HAD heard about were groups that cant be found on the search facility and required SW verification, membership no. Of NAOTP/Adoption UK or being known as an Adopter to existing members.

I know what you mean about using different names and recognising people who aren't Adopters. It's very obvious here who isn't.

Thanks again everyone.

I have now joined a few FB Adoption groups. Most of them required you to know an existing member/required a SW to verify your status.

All of the groups except YAWN accepted my joining request. I will add that YAWN has no measures in place that verify you as an adopter. So I think I'm better off not in that one.
