A New Journey

So today marks the start of new journey for me. My boy is grown and doing well. Time to look to my future.
A social worker came to visit today, left a sheaf of paperwork and booked me on to the first day of Foster carer training
Who knows what or who the future will bring to us, but we are ready

I'm so excited for you! X

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 12/05/2022 07:29

How exciting for you. I wouldn't have the energy.

Kitkatcrunchie · 12/05/2022 07:59

Congrats. What an exciting new adventure. You have given such great help and advice to many of us on here and I know you will bring a lot to being a foster carer in helping those children in that stage of their lives.
All the best with it all.

Ted27 · 12/05/2022 11:52

thank you for your good wishes everyone

@UnderTheNameOfSanders it remains to be seem how much energy I have!

My LA has a special programme for children age 10+ who they are trying to keep in a family setting and out of residential care. As my boy came to me at 8 I think this is where I have most to offer - I've had a good practice on him and won't have the added pressure of work.
I've had enough of paper pushing and want to do something more useful for the next few years

What news Ted! Was thinking about you earlier in the light of the changes in THAT department.

Look forward to hearing how you get on, your advice and support down the years has been appreciated by many.

Ted27 · 12/05/2022 12:37

Haha @DeegeeDee

I am currently surplus to requirements !

I can’t think of anyone better to care for older kids, very challenging but you know that and have more than earned your stripes. You have such an opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of young people placed with you - very best of luck.

AKingdomForAUsername · 12/05/2022 22:10

Wonderful! I've been lurking on this board for quite a while and your posts have really helped me to see things more clearly - your experience and empathy will make such a difference.

rosiethefemaleone · 13/05/2022 11:55

This is wonderful news!

ScottishBeth · 13/05/2022 13:11

That is amazing! I've not posted too much on this forum, but I've read a lot. Your advice has always seemed so helpful.

You have so much to offer and I hope that you and your son continue to do well! (Cannot find the words to express what I'm trying to say - haha! But it's all good things!)

DeegeeDee · 13/05/2022 17:31

They're all going to hell @Ted27 shame you won't be able to take advantage if the announcement today comes through.

Ted27 · 13/05/2022 19:56

Well you never know @DeegeeDee
if they offered me redundancy on Monday I’d take it.
But we all know there will be a huge argy bargy about it all which will take months to sort out

@Ted27 , I’ve done the reverse journey (foster carer to adopter) x 2 and my biggest piece of advice to you would be to stand your ground and only accept placements that you believe will work for you and your son. Also, honestly, you are more dispensable as a foster carer (not that there’s a fuckton of support for adopters these days).
