Foster to adopt waiting time

Hi all,

Me and my partner got approved early December for both adoption and foster to adopt. We had a lot of interest straight away for traditional adoption and we felt that we wanted to explore F2A first. We always came in to adoption wanting to go through the route of F2A as we were fosters a few years ago.

I understand the term how long is a piece of string and aware that F2A comes under this term. I just wanted to see how long people waited for their F2A placement/ had calls to say about possible F2A. I just want to hear other peoples stories of how long you waited ect.

Its been 2 months now since approved and we haven't had one call about F2A. Maybe it is the area we are from? Or there just isn't any F2A placements atm.

Thank you :)

Mine was about two weeks after panel, which fell through. Two weeks later another link but this also fell through. Final (& perfect!) link came two weeks later. Baby born a few days later and came home at two days old.

Hi, we were approved in June 2020 and little one came to us Feb 2021at 3 months old (finally matched last month). Inbetween that whilst waiting, we would get several calls a month about a potential baby to hearing nothing for a month or two. Many a time we said we were interested but heard nothing more, which was frustrating but possibly due to the need to place urgently and we were not quick enough (our SW was incredibly busy and sometimes she couldn't call us as soon as she had the babies details) or sometimes baby was too close to our area . On one occasion we were told we were chosen for a little one and could we take her Monday after court case on Friday morning. I ordered lots of clothes online and we were so excited/nervous, but unfortunately come the Friday afternoon we were told the Judge didn't grant Interim Order (I think) and little one was staying with dad who was the risk!
It is emotional and frustrating having to wait (I became miserable and tearful on many occasions) especially when you hear of those who have been approached straight after panel, however we are so glad we didn't get linked for the babies we were spoken to about as we now have the best little girl ever! I promise you it will be worth the wait if you get the placement order (although it's still incredibly sad). Also, when it does happen- it can all happen very quickly! You may find you get that unexpected call next week and baby comes within days....x

Thank you for replying and talking about your adoption story. It does help to hear other stories and knowing I'm not going stir crazy for no reason. Knowing it can take a while does help me relax a little :)
