Hey guys, so my DH is applying to adopt my DS tomorrow, he is 9 and my DH has been in his life since he was 1. I stopped bio dad in the early weeks of DS life seeing him when he came to visit under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He was extremely abusive. Since that time he was told by my solicitor to contact the court if he wishes to make contact. Since then he has applied for MIAMS which was closed due to DV. Never tried to see DH. We know he's going to contest the adoption and was asking for any successful stories or advice? I've used my police and medical records as evidence to support my DH as advised by the court.
Any advice or stories would be great,
Kindest regards
Lolli x

@Lollipops2019
Sorry I don't have any experience but wanted to wish you well.

BF 's position looks weak to me, whilst your DH looks strong. I assume at age 9 your son will be asked what he wants.
Good luck, let us know what happens

Thank you so much we hope to get the outcome my DS wants, he is very aware of his birth father and we have always been very open to questions and always gave him the information he wants in an age related way which the adoption lady explained is very good for his understanding, it was his choice and we've done everything we can to get the outcome we all want,

Thank you again for your kind message I will keep you updated x

I dont have experience of step parent adoption. My son (now 6) came to me about a year ago via the Adoption process from the Care system.

I just wanted to say it's great that your son is so aware of his birth father and is able to ask and get questions answered. And that he's voiced his wish to be adopted by his step father.

Best of luck and Flowers for you.

What an amazing mum you are, its amazing that you've given your son a loving family ❤
Thank you so much, it hurts to answer some questions but that way i feel he will always know where he is from, I haven't gone into detail just explained that sometimes in life people make bad choices and that none of it is my sons fault ,
He understands that this is going to be a difficult process if his bio dad opposes the adoption however we have reassured him our home life will not change and we will try again in a couple of years if we need to 😊

Thank you for your kind words xx
