2nd time adoption...big age gap

Hi, we adopted 2 children in 2011 that are now 12 & 13. We were quite young when adopted first time round, and I now can't stop thinking about how we could offer another child a home.

I have a big worry about the age gap though, do you think it would be a huge problem or am I overthinking??

I don’t think so at all. In my mind you would be ideal candidates by experience but also have the time to devote to a little one,

They seemed very keen to progress us when I called our local authority. I guess we can explore it with the ASW

I think it depends on how your children feel about adoption and a potential new sibling, teenage years can be very challenging for adopters so I’d be thinking about how you can support them and settle a new child in the family. You bring lots of strengths to further adoption so I’m not surprised an agency would be keen to have you.

You are experienced parents, which is fab. They will want to speak to your children and their school etc.. so they will be fully involved in the process. How do they feel about having an new brother or sister?
I think it’s fab that you are going through the process again
We adopted 2 children, often thought about possibilities of number 3
The fact you have a big age gap is also a bonus as you will be able to devote lots of time to a new baby.

I do think this will be an issue. As Widgets has said you are experienced parents. In our case there are 24 years between our eldest AC and youngest (no laughing please 😉😉 we are ancient) Won't even go into homegrown children's ages. Good luck.

Thanks all :) I had forgotten how draaaaaawn out the process can be 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄😂
