Hi all. Some of you may well recognise me. I am a birth parent and I occasionally check these boards to see how you all are doing so I thought I would post a little update.

My birth son is due to start secondary in September which has of course bought with it various emotions. I am still working hard and have continued to progress in my career.

Currently enjoying being single and putting myself front and centre. I have continued with the gym in between these lockdowns and have now started to do some classes including boxfit and I am due to start self defence on Saturday.

How is everyone doing? How are the holidays going? I couldn’t bring myself to write summer because someone clearly forgot to email the sun and remind her it’s summer!

Hi @OurChristmasMiracle

lovely to hear from you and that things seem to be going ok for you?

My son is now 17 and will be going into his second year at college in September studying engineering.
We have had a good summer, holidays in Wales and the Isle of Wight and off to see friends in Cornwall for a few days on Sunday . He has done National Citizen Service, which included a week working in a refugee charity.
He is has a mini gym in his manshed so is busy getting ripped, meanwhile I’ve put on loads of weight over lockdowns and have to get a grip!

So lovely to see you @OurChristmasMiracle, and glad things are going well.

My two have just returned to school after summer and for once the transition into the new year seems to be going smoothly. We’ve had a busy summer, lots of trips here and there and a week with grandparents in London so they feel well travelled.

I’m dragging myself back to the gym - I’ve discovered weight training, which is making a huge difference to my body shape and indeed my energy levels too. Also about to embark on a new piece of freelance training which feels exciting.

Hi @OurChristmasMiracle lovely to hear from you, and really glad to hear things are going pretty well.

My (not so) LO starts a new school in September. It’s nerve wracking for us both I think!

I’m impressed with your fitness commitment. Like others lockdown has not helped my weight or general fitness (quite the opposite!) so I’m impressed with anyone that has the motivation and commitment to stick to a fitness regime.

Our summer holiday has been quiet but we have had a few days away by the sea which is always good for the soul. Me and DD are still doing therapy via ASF which can be tough at times but which is having huge benefits. She had a really lovely end of school report which commented on what a kind and caring girl she is - that was lovely to hear. We’ve had a tough couple of years with family bereavement and ill health on top of covid and everything else but I’m so proud of the awesome young woman she’s becoming. It’s a real privilege to be her mum.

Wishing you all the very best

Lovely to hear from you. Glad you're looking after yourself. My DC are having ups and downs just now, not easy sailing, but we'll weather any storm. I think lockdown has been a mixed bag for adoptees, but yes- weight gain for me!

Mama1980 · 20/08/2021 09:04

Great to hear from you Miracle Smile and that you're putting yourself first.
Mixed here, dd1 is now early twenties and has just completed a MA in biological science, she has worked in a hospital/lab all through the pandemic. Dd2 is still in and out of hospital as they struggle to get her seizures under control but she's determined as ever. She made the dr laugh the other day when she refused to see him without her brother coming to. They are real partners in crime - with only 11 months between them it makes my life fun!
