We've watched episodes 1 and 2 of series 2 tonight and I felt right there with them. We've shown interest in 2 children and are waiting to hear back

I agree the waiting bit is done well in it, shows the emotions well! Ive watched them all and cant wait till series 3!

Such an exciting time! I’ve not seen the series, but heard good things. I loved the film ‘Instant Family’ too. Very American, but some relevant themes.

When I read the profiles of my two, it was a straight no, too many potential issues, but i couldn’t get them out of my head.

Anyway, three years later and here we are…they are just awesome. I’m sure we will have our challenges ahead though. But they are brilliant, and we are just a ‘normal’ regular family…bumbling along, just like everyone else, but we have dark humour, brutal honesty, massive big belly laughs and so much respect and love…we know each of our histories (age appropriately) we know we have to confront our pasts head on, but we also know we are a family and if we talk we will have support.

That film made me cry, when they thought they were going back to birth family 😭😭

We're trying nit to get our hopes up about these 2. We first saw their profile on linkmaker at our last sw home visit where she showed us linkmaker. She'd said she was going to enquire as they were available to in assessment or approved families.

When we saw them still on lm the other day we were immediately drawn back to them. Their profile has been updated as well 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

While some bits made us shout 'that would never happen', it is very well done in other scenes. The disorganisation of the couple annoys me a little but overall its a really lovely watch.

Anyway, fingers crossed for you OP. I hope you aren't kept waiting for too long. Do you want to gush about what felt right for you with the match or do you want to be distracted while you wait?

Oh am very happy to gush 😁 although really really trying not to get hopes up too much as don't want to be disappointed.

The older child has such a cute little smile, both of their personalities sound perfect for us - older child sings all the time, they both love swimming and the outdoors. But there is also a sad story to them which when we first heard it made us both gasp 😢. They do now have a lovely bond with their fc and the hope is to carry on that bond once adopted. Which we are very happy to do.

Their heritage is eastern European and their profile says it would've good to have some cultural knowledge or link. My SILs family is from a direct neighbouring country with very similar culture.

Oh claire! My first thought was ooo it sounds really positive - you do sound a great match dont you!
Then my second thought was oh hang on is that too much info for mumsnet?? i may be overworrying (but I tend to do that!)
Super fingers crossed for you!!
I too am fingers crossed for my own link to work out! Such a mad waiting game!

Somuddled · 18/07/2021 22:06

You sound very excited, that's lovely to hear. Hadnt intended for my post to seem like I was trying to get info out of you by the way! I just know how it can feel when you want to spill all the feelings out rather tha bottle them up. My sister friend went through 4 possible matches and each time it was helpful for her to have a space to run away with the 'hopefully' feelings.

claireb7rg · 22/07/2021 15:27

Heard today they've been matched with another family 😢

We knew it was a long shot but still feels massively disappointing

aaah but waaait!

Somuddled · 23/07/2021 01:06

Oh, big hugs for you. That's rotten for you.

scully29 · 23/07/2021 10:23

Oh Claire, Im so so sorry, I totally misunderstood your post above - I totally thought you were talking about the family in Trying - so so sorry and I am also really sorry to hear that news now I understand it :(

claireb7rg · 23/07/2021 13:09

Finished series 2 yesterday. Now can't wait for series 3!!

Our sw contacted us about 2 little ones this morning, for 2 reasons (one sensible, one silly - the youngest was the same name as one of our cats 😂) we felt we couldn't say yes which felt a bit heartbreaking but luckily for them there were 3 other families with potential.

Didn't realise how emotional this would be, only been approved for a week, we got our official approval through yesterday as well which was so quick. Guess the advantage of things being virtual.

This time is so difficult - the waiting through matching can take a while so lots of patience needed, I remember well the “could these be my children” feeling…

Whatthechicken · 23/07/2021 14:49

So sorry for your news. But when we were in this stage, I remember a wise person on here saying ‘what’s meant for you won’t pass you by’. I know that’s unhelpful right now, but when you are matched with your children, it will ring true. You need to look after yourselves during this stage, it is very emotional. So whether that’s a night in, or a night out on the tiles, a long bath or a good book…I hope you have a lovely, restful weekend.
