Referral to CAMHS for SEN - where to start

I need to get the referral process started to assess my son for special educational needs with a view to getting an EHCP.

School have recommended this and I agree it's needed as he is struggling more and more. Their theory is both ADHD and autism.

I don't know where to begin or what the potential pit falls are and I am hoping someone more experienced can help?

My gp did the CAMH referral. For us CAMH have been amazing! We have an EHCP too so feel free to pm any questions. Sounds like school are on side which is positive.

Ipsea are a charity who provide free advice on getting an EHCP. I highly recommend them.

Our SENCO did the referral for us to the community paediatrician team and it went from there. We got a diagnosis from them and alongside that tge SENCO started the (very very long and frustrating) EHCP process.

IPSEA have a template letter for applying for an EHCP.
