If your child is adopted, you're entitled.

Yes if your child is adopted or about to be, you're eligible, regardless of working status or income.

My local children and family centre were really helpful with this. They sorted it out for me and gave me a code to pass on to the childcare provider.

Hi,

If you go to the Tax-Free childcare www.gov.uk/get-tax-free-childcare and register it will give you the option of applying 15 hrs free childcare. It will issue you a code. If I remember correctly the borough authorises it.

Find the free childcare section on your local council website - there will be an option to say you have a LAC or former LAC. I had to upload proof (used my placement letter from the placing authority) and a few days later I got a code to give to the nursery.

Our health visitor did it for us but we heard nothing back for months. Eventually the Nursery got on it and managed to get it sorted.

The Nursery did tell us if we had not paid our Nursery bill then it would have gotten done much faster.

We should have just applied to our local council as is it them that pay the 15 hours we may have gotten it earlier.

One note when you go for the 30 hours free on the Gov website they could not match our LO to us so we had to send in the real Adoption certificate. We cant claim child benefits so we had no match to them in the tax office.

We could have just given then the original Birth certificate details but I don't trust them not to make a mistake re Birth mum and the adoption cert should replace the birth cert. It does but they need to see it physically and cant match it by phone/email.
