Hi folks

Has anyone who has recently been assessed for fostering or adoption, been questioned about historic bankruptcy?

I totally understand that we will have to do an income and expenditure.
Show bank statements , wage slips etc.

I don't recall them doing a credit check on us just full DBS checks. They usually look at the current financial statusand make sure you can manage money now.

But and its a big one. You will have maybe 60 plus hours of one on one interaction with a social worker who will learn everything about your life and this is bound to come up by you of your references.

One of the things they are looking for is resilience and this would be a prime example of something you overcame so I would be positive about this.

Thankyou, that’s very encouraging

I think they’ll want to discuss it, not necessarily from a finances point of view of you’ve been financially stable for a while, but bankrupt is a huge stressor. They’ll want to know the circumstances, how it impacted you individually and as a couple, how you coped and what learning there was for you both. Being open about it will stand you in good stead - anything big that’s not mentioned in adoption tends to raise questions about what else isn’t being said if you know what I mean.

It shouldn’t impact on your adoption but not talking about it might.
