Hi

Name change for privacy.

I am looking after a 3week old lovely boy who’s mom drank throughput pregnancy. He is a good weight and size and eat and sleeps well although I believe he has some characteristics of Fas. I have spoken to the HV about this and she will email a paediatrician for ‘advice’ on features Hmm

Can anyone tell me who diagnoses FAS/FASD by facial features and what testing is used?

Thanks

It's usually a diagnosis of excluding anything else (for example genetic issues), looking for characteristic symptoms and features, and a history of drinking in pregnancy. There's no test as such. It usually comes from a paediatrician or genetics clinic. It's good you're getting the ball rolling, as it's helpful for getting support.

Adoption UK are full of good info and I think theres an FASD Hub or something might be useful for info.
