Evening all 😊 we are just starting the adoption process, and were looking for some book recommendations or any sort of advice as we are nervous!

We started with No Matter What by Sally Donovan and The A-Z of Therapeutic Parenting by Sarah Naish both were really helpful. Also ‘The Adoption’ bbc podcast was really useful. Good luck!!

How I met my son by Rosalind Powell is good and gives you a good idea of modern adoption.

Flying Solo by Julia Wise. It’s about a single woman’s adoption journey but couples would benefit from reading it too because it’s funny and thought provoking.

The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog - Bruce Perry. About the effect of trauma on children's brains, and the implications for helping them heal. Very readable as well!

And for a remarkably honest comedy about adoption - the film Instant Family. On Netflix atm

Preparing for Adoption Julie Davis is really good. There are so many id read anything you can. Adoption UK is also brilliant for webinars, zoom meet ups and their magazine, just so helpful.
