Claiming child benefit before adoption order/certificate

Hi all, a boring question about the practicalities of claiming child benefit! Our LO is coming to live with us next week and we are aware that we can claim from when he come to live with us. Looking at the gov.uk website it says you need to send the adoption certificate, but obviously we won't have that until the adoption order is granted in a few months time. We will have his birth certificate but that doesn't have any of our details. How do we claim?

Our LO's social worker wrote a letter explaining the situation, we included it with the application and received child benefit no problems :) we're still waiting on the adoption order!

As above - I don’t actually remember sending said letter off though, I actually remember just ringing up and saying what had happened and they set me up...

We were given a matching certificate after panel so I sent that off. I had no problems & when the order had come through I just called to tell them.

I just wrote a note and sent it off with the form which seemed to work. I also did a web chat with them to get confirmation. We had no issues at all

Our SW took care of this for us by writing a letter. This included specific instructions not to pass our details on to the previous claimants.i.e. birth family. Reason for this is birth family still receive child benefit even when child is in foster care.
