Got contacted by our agency today for our first visit appointment which is exciting! Appointment is next Wednesday 😁

We weren't expecting to hear this side of Christmas as we'd been told there was a backlog of applications to our agency over the Lockdown.

It's a 2 hour call, can anyone give any suggestions as to what will happen please? Do we need to prep anything for it. We've been doing lots of reading, watching, listening in preparation for the start of our journey so hopefully nothing over and above what we've done 🤞

The first meeting will be outlining the process and planning the work you’ll be doing through the assessment process. It should be about you getting to know your sw and vice versa. Don’t worry about reading etc, just relax into the process - it’s a long road still so pace yourself. Good luck 😁

Let me tell you about our initial meeting and you then can transfer that to zoom.

I cleaned the house because I knew they would look round. Some folks said they would not, but I knew they might, and they did! They did not expect to see a spotless home but just wanted to know we had a spare room (we had a 7 year old dd already).

So I'd make sure you will feel comfortable if they do ask for a tour of the house. I am sure it is highly unlikely but they might.

They asked why we wanted to adopt etc, and that meant talking about over 6 years of fertility treatment. I did get a bit upset but I could still talk about it all, which I think is helpful. You don't need to be someone with a heart of stone, but I think you do need to be able to tell your story, your reasons for adopting etc.

They might (or might not) ask about practical things like your health, your financial situation, your marriage or relationship if you are in a partnership etc and that kind of thing. I think they almost certainly will.

Agree with Jellycatspyjamas nothing to worry about.

If you have already been to an open evening or even a zoom open evening you will have been told something about how they work, what they are looking for etc. And they will probably tell you more etc.

Hope it goes really well.

I have no personal experience but there is a lovely lady called Ali on Instagram @im.winging.it.too who has adopted and talks of the highs and lows. I'm sure she would give advice if you reach out.

Thank you all 😁👍

Oh that's really odd 😁 we've watched an adoption UK video tonight about adopting siblings and it was Ali

I don't use insta but sounds like I might need to get to grips with it 😂

Had the initial visit tonight :) it went well, we think, she asked us what felt like 20 million questions, about us, our house, our childhood, our family, jobs etc etc we then had to take her on a tour of the house via laptop 😂
She has sent us the report through already, once we have ok'd it she is sending to her boss who makes a decision whether we can proceed or not.
vibes please for a positive response :)🍀🤞

It sounds positive for you and I will be thinking of you. It must have seemed really strange doing the virtual tour! Do let us know how you get on and I hope this is the beginning of your journey.

Italiangreyhound · 09/12/2020 23:29

Sounds good.

@claireb7rg Congrats! I'm so clumsy If we had had to do a virtual tour of the house I'd probably have slipped on the stairs......tripped over the cat...dropped the laptop! 😳
