Step child adoption with 11 year absent bio parent

My Dd was conceived very early on in a short relationship completely unplanned.

I had left my ex before I found out about the pregnancy. He didn't handle the breakup and things went from bad to worse when he realised I wouldn't be taking him back.

First injunction followed by lifetime injunction.

The judge advised both times he had to allow contact via solicitor incase ex wanted to have access to Dd as he hadn't proved himself as a father to her.

The lifetime injunction and a move out of area seemed to stop things, have never heard anything else from him though though I do he went on to have children with two other and women after me with time inside for one of those attacks. One ended with a lifetime injunction which he has breached the other he gained access!!

Dd is now almost 12, my husband who has been in her life since she was 7 is keen to adopt her but I've been too scared of being found to look into it properly.

Given ex had a way to apply for access and has chosen not to I would hope he would agree but I fully expect if he is asked his opinion he will object to make his way back to me rather than out of any desire to get to know Dd.

He isn't on the birth certificate but because of the injunction there is a paper trail to him.

He has never seen Dd, never enquired, never paid maintenance.

After an ectopic pregnancy I suffered a couple of years ago that almost cost me my life really brought home to me that I should look into this so Dd isn't ripped away from who she has allowed to be her dad. We were married earlier this year and I've completed the name change but I'm still worried for her future.

Dd and DH have both spoken about adoption for quite a while so I thought I would tentatively look into it.

I have looked into PR, but I don't know what happens if something happens to me or if ex does decide to come out of the woodwork in the next few years.

I hope zero attempt at contact would really speak volumes in a court, but I have read that people have tried step parent adoption which resulted in contact with previously absent parent.

If anyone has been in a similar situation I'd appreciate any advice.

Thank you
