Hi all,

Thanks for reading this!

First some background on us. We have been ttc for quite a while now. In the grand scheme of things isn't a long time compared to those on journeys spanning years and years and decades. However we have been though an ectopic pregnancy and an early miscarriage. We have started to think about about future fertility treatments which has taken me down a big research rabbit hole. Its has been a really difficult time but the more I read about treatments or IVF the more I wonder if IVF is right for us. I would just like to read about adoption just so I get information from both sides/options. Please can anyone recommend any resources or books that will give an over view or information. I'm aware the Internet is a rabbit hole and with the IVF stuff I've got a bit lost so feel it's worth getting book/website recommendations instead.

I should stress that this is very tentative reading and we won't be making a decisions any time soon/until we have had more time talking about it. I appreciate adoption isn't going to a quick easy fix to loss and that adoption can be really difficult. I know it isn'tsomething that should be rushed into because we will need time to make sure it is right for us and we are in the right place for what ever we decide and come to terms with it

Thanks
J

The adoption UK website is a good starting point. Take your time and good luck.

First4adoption is also very good if you're in the early stages of thinking about adoption.

We are in early stages of considering adoption. If we do it we will likely start next year. The first book we bought was 'Want to Adopt?' by Helen Oakwater. It is very much written for people who haven't quite decided yet. It give practical things to do and talk about.

I'd also recommend a YouTuber called Amiee Vlog. She is UK based has made videos on almost every aspect of the process.

If you want a really clear explanation of the step by step process, I actually found a video made my Mumsnet, that also on YouTube. That's specific to England though.

"No Matter What" is a classic.

The creatingafamily.org podcasts are highly informative and fun to listen to. They are American, so some of the information on tax, legalities and system do not apply, but pretty much everything else does.

Helen Oakwater: "Want to adopt?"
Julia Davies: "Preparing for Adoption"
