Would I get considered ? What would the process be ?

I’m looking for a little advice please 😊
For the last 9 years we have been trying to have a family , over the last 5years I’ve had a number of awful pregnancy losses. 3 months ago I had an ectopic . & now it’s looking the same with this pregnancy . If this does not go according to plan . I want to think about adopting . I work in early years , have done for about 11 yrs . My love for a family has always been on my mind . I do have a slight disability ( have lost the use of my right arm and hand ) would this go against me ? My husband has a daughter from a pervious relationship. I have been in her life 10 years . I love her to bits but would really love a baby / young child to call mine .. thanks xx

I can’t advise as to whether you would be approved or not, but if you are worried about a medical issue hindering your application, my medical was done much earlier than normal in the process so at least you know early on whether you would be refused due to it x

I'm very sorry about all your losses. There's nothing that you have said which would be a barrier to you adopting when the time is right. Lots of people with disabilities and medical conditions adopt.

But can I very gently say that this isnt the time to be thinking about adoption. You need time to grieve properly for your losses and come to terms with not having birth children. The adoption porocess can be quite gruelling and intrusive, social workers will want to know that you have moved away fully from the idea of birth children, if you have been having fertility treatment they want to see some time between your last treatment and starting the adoption process, some may want you to have counselling.
Have you researched why children come into the system? Many will have additional needs, some very complex, it will be a very different experience to having a birth child.
I can see you have been trying to have a baby for some time, but don't rush into this before you are ready.

Absolutely everything that Ted27 said. It sounds like a difficult time and maybe now is not the right time to be thinking about this. It doesn’t hurt to research but do take some time out for yourself. As for having a disability, this shouldn’t rule you out but there are steps the agency should take like encourage you to have your medical early on, get more research from any specialists you are seeing, risk assessments. Please do give yourself time. Adoption is hard work and very intrusive. You will have to discuss the loss of not having a birth child. All the best
