Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

Adopting if you have a mental illness

Does anyone have experience of adopting despite having a long term mental illness?

I have schizoaffective disorder. When on medication I was stable - good home life, able to work etc. I came off 2 out of 3 medications to try for a baby but just over a year in i'm not coping so will be going back on meds. My partner is in excellent health and I have a very strong family support network .

We had previously considered adoption and knew trying to conceive might not work for us but felt we should at least try.

Scout16 I cannot speak from personal experience but I would suggest talking to your local adoption authority.

Good luck. Thanks

I've never heard of this being an exclusion, If you were approved to apply I guess you would have to prove that you have a good track record of taking your meds etc and taking a mature approach to your health.
The only way you will know is to contact a few adoption agencies and ask.
