Hi there. I was made redundant before I was matched with children. Children will be placed with me early 2020 - im wondering if people know what financial rights I have as I am unemployed - I heard children benefit bit also council tax etc - bit of a minefield knowing what could possibly be claimed for - your help appreciated x

I would contact citizens advice bureau, adoption U.K. and your union if you are a member. The job centre might be able to help too.

I w'ould think you would have to apply for universal credit, you need to check if they cover your area. If you are on jobseekers allowance that would be an indicator you are not in a universal credit area which would be good but I think they cover most of the country now. If you are a single adopter I recommend the gingerbread helpline for benefits advice, most convenient option in my experience.
