Do you refer to it in the past or present tense? I.e. Would you say "I am adopted..." or "I was adopted..."?
I'm curious!

I'm not adopted
my son says I was adopted in 2012 if he is referring to the legal bit. But he says I'm adopted should the matter come up. He is 15

Mmmmmm
I’m 53 and I was adopted as a 5 week old baby.
I have had a lot of hospital appointments in the last few weeks and when asked about family history I have said “no history, I’m adopted”

I think I say I was adopted, but am an adoptee. I don't think I am always consistent though. But I think that that is what I usually say.

Interesting. I think I use the present tense - I'm adopted. I feel I should use the past tense because effectively it was a single occasion when I was tiny and I've never known family other than my adoptive family. I feels bit guilty using the present tense because I feel I shouldn't still be affected by it; it was over 40 years ago!
Just asked DH and he confirmed I use both depending on context.
I find the medical thing really annoying and quite frustrating fudges mummy. No idea how many times it says it in my notes - probably every appointment! Hope everything's OK!

@jessicabrassica
I don’t mind as much now, but when I was pregnant for the first time I was only just 20 and found all the fuss very upsetting

I say “ I was adopted “ and “ I’m an adoptee “ depending on the context.

But mostly I don’t say anything at all. I rarely mention it, because it’s not hugely relevant to most of my life, it doesn’t define me IYSWIM.
