Adoption and Social Services Help With Housing

Looking for advice. In short, we adopted 7 years ago. Both children special needs. We’ve had post adoption involved most of the time. They’ve withdrawn their help due to lack of funding for the past 8/9 months. We’ve been privately renting the whole time but our rent is extortionate and we can’t afford it. We’re on the housing register but a low priority.
Has anyone ever asked social services to help them be a higher priority?

No personal experience, but from trying to help people out with housing from a professional perspective housing have a very strict criteria they use when allocating priority, and any support would need to fit into this. For example if you live in a 2 bed house and your children's needs mean it's not appropriate for them to share a bedroom you could get supporting letters from SW and and health professionals to try and boost your priority for a 3 bed. Unfortunately affordability of current property doesn't seem to make any difference. Are you getting all the financial support you're entitled to (DLA etc)?

Yeah we’re getting everything. We would get more if I quit my job but that would never be something I’d consider. We’re privately renting a 3 bed currently but at £1000 a month it’s just too much. We would only be eligible for a 2 bed but would be fine with this.

We got support letters from social workers as moving would make us closer to my family ( support network). This helped massively and we got moved up 3 bands.

Oh that would be fantastic! Our children’s services are stretched financially so hopefully this is something they actually can do! Moving up 3 bands would put us in band A. I’m glad someone has had this kind of help from them!
