How many references

I am just starting the adoption process. I read that they need to get references from friends and family. How many references is normal? I don’t have a huge social circle but have a lot of support from my family. I am just worried I won’t have enough people.

Hi I'm single. I think the norm is three, at least one usually has to be a family member. I would imagine for a couple its 6, 3 each, but happy to be corrected on that one

We are a couple and had to have 6 written references between us, only two of which could be family. 4 of those were visited by our social worker, but I'm not sure that is the norm.

Hi we had 3 between us 1 family member and my best friend and hubby's best friend. SW visited all 3.

We had to give three between the two of us. Only one could be family and they needed to know us well as a couple.

We're a couple and needed 3 written references each, only 1 each of which could be a family member. Our SW then visited 2 each of our referees so 4 out of the 6.

We had to give 3 official references between us, 2 were family and 1 a friend. I've added a couple of extra as the process has gone on. Parents of children I've worked with plus a previous employer where I worked with children. We're trying to make sure we can evidence our experience with children to back up what we've written in our profiles.

1 family, 2 friends on each side.
