Intro book

I'm going to matching panel in 4 weeks and been told to put together something quickly. LO is ,1yo. So.... I have 2 things

Intro book
I have pictures of us, our dog, and various rooms in the house. The pictures of the house also include a teddy bear in the photos, which I plan to give him.

Audiobook
I've been given a Tomy "forget me not" toy which has inserts to add photos and allows you to record a message for each photo. I was wondering whether to add different photos here, or the same ones for the intro book. Wondering how to make it more interesting. Any ideas?

I would say either would be fine, but the same picture might make it more memorable. I think you’re very lucky to have got hold of that forget me not thing as only last summer when we were trying to get it for our LO it was impossible!!!

We did a pillow with our faces on printed on it which went into our LOs cot at the foster carers. He still has it now! It was from boots. Our social workers loved it!

If your LO is only just 1 - then to be honest I would say pictures of your face is more important than the surroundings - but I’m not 100% sure about how much a one year old can tell. Maybe pictures of your face in the surroundings may be better than just the surroundings...

My lo was only just one. I did the Tomy butterfly with close family and lo as the fourth picture. He loved playing with that. That was the only photo album I used. I also did a Build a Bear and recorded my voice in a sound chip in its paw. I slept with the bear for a few nights to give it my smell before the bear went over to the foster carers'. I still think that is a lovely idea but to be honest my son has never really been that bothered about the bear. On the social worker's advice we did an A4 picture of me in black and white, laminated. The SW actually did this for me. And this went in lo's cot.

A word of advice if you are doing a regular photo book, a one year old will likely destroy paper pages. Photobox now do a board book that is much easier for babies to handle.

I hadn't thought about a board book but your right. The ones on photobox are quite small. I was hoping for something a little bigger....those are tiny

Can you record yourself reading stories and send the recordings and books to FC so LO gets to hear your voice before intros?

We got the board books from Photobox and although small you can leave them in the child’s book box/rack and they can pick it up to look at it. Anything you big/unwieldy/precious wouldn’t have the same feel I don’t think. You want it to be robust, withstand dribble and the odd chew at that age. Ours love them and we would highly recommend.

You could buy a soft toy and sleep in the bed with it for a week and give it to social worker to pass on so she knows your smell. We did that.

This is a really good idea.

We also got big A3 laminated pictures made up and a video, rather than the photobook.

Don't feel you need to do too much though, as long as you send photos the format doesn't matter too much.

We also did a DVD.our birth dd was 9 and she helped to film and make it.

We like all prospected AP too send us A4 laminated head and shoulders photo's, if possible., can use in bedroom too say nite nite ,and stay around , placed at random on floor or any where , child has choice too view or play with. Amazing too see child's reaction when actual physical contact takes place, works every time is simple and not intrusive.
