Adoption card etiquette

Could you please let me know if I send an adoption card when the child first joins the family, or just a congratulations card initially and then an adoption card when the legal adoption is complete?
I may be overthinking this!

I was just happy to get cards, I had congratulations and adoption cards on both moving in day and our celebration day. I also had an 'Its a boy' baby card and balloons which I loved. He did as well - he was 7 !

Legally speaking the child isn't yet adopted when they move in but I'm not sure anyone is really thinking about that at the time.
I'm sure they will be happy whatever you send

I received them when child arrived.... I think as most people didn't understand the difference.

I received cards when DD first arrived. The only time I'd worry about this being appropriate is in foster to adopt when the child may return to birth family. Had some balloons which DD loved, flowers not so good as I didn't have the energy to look after them and keep them out of DD's way! SWs commented on how many cards I had, made me a bit sad as the implication was most people don't get them. So as has been said cards at any point much appreciated Smile

When the child joins is usual, I think. Lovely that you're planning to do it and I can understand not wanting to inadvertently put your foot in it.

A lovely friend of mine sent us a congratulations card and a birthday card for every year she'd missed of DS's birthdays. It was more of a gesture than anything but makes me tear up every time I think of it!

We 'nudged' people into sending us cards by sending out home printed 'Arrival cards' including a photo of the 4 of us and the d.o.b. of both girls. Worked a treat. Smile

I received a lot of cards when the DC arrived withus, they are very precious to me as a marker of me becoming a mum. Don’t overthink, a nice card is a lovely thing to have.
