That Katie Price hopes to adopt a child from Nigeria. I'm astonished at this as it's a huge step to take and how can she be in a good position when she's got so many kids already and those don't seem to live with her any longer. Added to that she declared herself bankrupt, is banned from driving because she drive while banned and had no insurance, she's also been done for drink drive. Who vets foreign adoptions?

I'm speechless to be honest . She has just come out of rehab, is on the verge of bankruptcy and doesn't seem to have much time with her existing kids. And what about the on off live in boyfriend. He would have to be approved as well wouldnt he ? Don't you have to be approved the same as for UK adoption by the local authority? If so hopefully they will look at the bigger picture .
I don't want to knock her because she is a good mum to her eldest lad as far as we can tell and I am aware that non of us know the real truth about her life because of all the media crap that surrounds her but I can't believe she is in the right place to adopt at present. She might find it is harder to adopt than she thinks

Intercountry adoption is managed in the initial stages exactly the same as UK - so same home study and approval panel - same standards and added questions/reserch about your designated country and the extra health/development issues that come from children who ohave been institutionalised.

If I had £5 for every person who has said (either in RL) or online "I'd just love t adopt a child from Haiti/Phillipines/Bosia/insert country of latest natural disaster or documentary on poor but cute children) I'd wouldn;t be on MN - my butler would be doing it for me.

If she manages to persevere long enough to get through the whole process here AND then the sending country process for matching then she'll be a good enough parent probably. Someone once told me intercountry adoption was a self selecting process - if you can keep yourself going through the mindnumbing bureaucracy of TWO countries then you'll probably do as well as anyone parenting an adopted child!

Actually I've just read what she said - and chortled all the way through.

""It's easy to adopt abroad but not easy to bring back to the country."

D'you think I should send her my 3 month blog of being in country? Grin

I think KP is planning to adopt from Nigeria in the same way my DS was going to adopt a unicorn when he was 5. He meant it seriously, and I don't doubt her sincerity....

But it hasn't been legal to just go off to another country and adopt with no checks for about 20 years! She might get a nice weekend and a documentary out of it though.

Bless her, her heart is in the right place. I went to the source (DM website) there is a clip of her on This Morning talking about it - Holly and Phil's faces were a picture. They did challenge as to why she didn't adopt in the UK, apparently its so so hard, She was going to Nigeria this weekend but it was her turn to have the kids.
She has talked about this before, she probably thinks she can do a Madonna or Brangelina. A lot of C, D, Z list celebs talk about adoption, the A listers just go off and do it and you don't hear too much about it. Similarly people like Lisa Faulkner and the Grants just do it and talk about it later.
She won't get very far.

Ted I did do a bit of the double take about her plans to pop over to Nigeria to adopt this weekend but she couldn't fit it in between the party dro offs and the pony lessons (I'm exaggerating for effect!).

I suspect someone who knows has already been in touch to point oout that's it not quite like that!

Even Angelina Jlie and Madonna went through adoption agencies - though I alwyas thought Madonna was sailing a bit close to the wind legally as she was arguably a UK resident at that point. Hmm

I too thought "Bless, she means well"

Kewcumber · 28/01/2019 22:20

Who are the Grants?

Quiet A listers I also have time for - High Jackman and Ewan McGregor

Ted27 · 29/01/2019 00:56

David and Carrie Grant the singers They have four children, one of whom is adopted, all with complex needs. Theyve done some great stuff for autism uk

flapjackfairy · 29/01/2019 07:55

I can't get the clip to play but surely she was only going to Nigeria to suss it out ? Surely she didn't think she could pop over and pick one there and then ?

flapjackfairy · 29/01/2019 07:58

Oh and another issue is that her mum is dying. That is enough for anyone to deal with so surely Soc Ser wouldn't even consider assessing her . My heart goes out to her there because my dad died a year ago from the same lung condition. It was v hard !

Ted27 · 29/01/2019 09:29

No I don't think she is as daft as that, but you can't just nip over to Nigeria, I think there are visa requirements plus at least proof of yellowfever vaccination
