Single adopters and support network

I'm a single woman and starting to consider adoption. I have a support network but not consisting of family members- my support would be from friends and neighbours.

I would be interested to hear from single adopters...do you have a traditional support network? Was your social worker keen on family members being involved?

As long as you can demonstrate good support you should be Ok.

If you do have family and they are either not supportive of you adopting or you are 'estranged' from them for some other reason, the social workers will want to explore that with you.

I have a small family and, whilst supportive, they are two hours away so can't be much help in practical terms. Most of my support comes from friends

You need a support network you can genuinely call on anytime day or night.it doesn't matter whether family or not but you most definitely need the support.
