Welcome.

It's quiet here at the moment but others will doubtless be along.

Are there any specific things you wa t to ask?

Smile

Check out the threads here about starting and you will find several in a similar boat.

lustigwebb · 29/12/2018 08:23

Just hoping to meet people in the same boat . I can see the time it all takes seem to vary from 7 months to 2 years

Took us 18months but that’s because something delayed us so would have taken a year!

comehomemax · 31/12/2018 23:31

Good luck - exciting.

My advice would be to just read random selections of threads here to get a view on what sort of issues can crop up then throw questions at us when you are ready!

Hi,
Also new here, heading towards the end of the approval process. Combined approval and matching panel in 2 weeks time, hoping to be approved and matched with a child I know very well who is looked after in my LA. Only been done once before in my LA so keep everything crossed for me!

Exciting times!

lustigwebb · 02/01/2019 19:56

Wow good luck ! Very exciting times ahead Smile

I would recommend lots of reading. Some good books are
Preparing for Adoption by Julia Davis
Building the bonds of attachment by Dan Hughes
The inofficial guide to adoptive parenting by Sally Donovan
The connected child by Karyn Purvis
Real Parents, real children by Holly van Gulden
The boy who was raised as a dog by Bruce Perry

Listen to the adoption related shows here: creatingafamily.org/category/radio-show/ They are excellent.

You could go to an Adoption UK local meeting. You can get some valuable information on agencies there and meet other adopters. We followed the journey of another couple who were close to placement when we first met. We learned (and are still learning) a lot from them. Adoption UK also used to run "Getting Ready for Placement" workshops which were great for getting information and for meeting fellow adopters who were roughly in the same stage.
