Moving house during home study

Hi everyone!
DH and I have just started our home study and have a panel date for May 2019. SW is happy with the house we currently rent, however [luckily] my parents have just given us a desposit to buy a house of our own.
Would SW see this as a bad thing - getting a mortgage/moving/upheaval/stress etc. during such an intense period of "interrogation" with her?
Or would it be seen as positive as we can include her with ideas of where we're thinking and also the fact that the mortgage will [no doubt] be cheaper per month than rent?
TIA Smile

Not a social worker and didn’t move during my assessment - but the only thing I would say is I think buying a house is one of the most stressful things you can do and often you can’t put a time frame on it - if you’re in a chain it can take 6 months to buy a place.

But equally - if you’re in the assessment process - that can take a really long time. In my view a lot of social workers will do what they can to put you off and delay the process, so if you want to do both you will have to be careful. I wouldn’t tell them you were doing it until you were close to exchanging contracts is all - as if you’re in stage 1 it doesn’t really matter I don’t think. I would just say don’t start introductions for a child immediately after moving house!

I think the following issues might be considered;

-Will you still be close enough to support network which will be viewed as v important
-will there be any significant financial changes/impact on flexibility arround work as a result

  • timing: it would likely be they would want you well settled before matching and intros.

I also think it is much much better to move now than after you start your family.

Thanks for the replies!
Thankfully we've not got a chain, we're renting atm and the place we've decided on has no chain either.
It's in the same area we're in now, so no impact on distance from support network.
The mortgage will probably be a few hundred less a month?
As there's no chain, we could be in early Jan! Well settled before panel in May.

Thanks again - writing it out like that makes it more clear that we've been very lucky with timing [If we get this house that is!!]

I’d mention to SW that you’re considering it and gauge reaction. But bill it as to avoid your future LO having the upheaval of moving again.

We moved at about the same time & same circumstance. We didn't mention anything until we knew it was definitely happening and then it was seen as a good thing as meant we were more stable.
