Hello wise ones! Please help - we have now officially adopted DD but I am struggling to figure out how we get an new NHS number.

Social worker said speak to our GP practice manager, who doesn’t seem to have a clue and is being difficult!

Any advice very much appreciated before I go bonkers!!!

We had to take a copy of our dd's new birth/adoption certificate to the practice manager in our surgery, she then processed a new number for us and we got a letter confirming a few weeks later.
Once it's done I would make sure all the relevant medical history has been added as our daughters new number didn't have her vaccinations on her records.

Oh and congratulations on your daughter's adoption.

Thank you so much, that’s really helpful. I think I will go and camp out at the GPs so they can’t fob me off over the phone :-)

Some practices and social workers do it by magic.

Others blame each other, and are a pita.

Get your practice manager on side, and put them in touch with the SW, and step back.

I found it a nightmare to get, primarily as no one could explain how to get it. Eventually receptionist phoned the nhs 'headquarters' in Preston and got it that way.
