Hi all I need some advice if anyone could help?
I have 2 children, my youngest son is with my husband and my eldest son i had with my ex. My husband has raised my eldest son since his was 18 months (me and birth father split up just before he turned 1).. Birth father is now in prison (sentenced to 13 years) and has not seen my son since he was 2 years old (he is 6 years old now). Birth father has never been a fatherly figure and is definitely not a good role model.
I have been trying to figure out the process of step parent adoption for a while now. The reason why I want to do this is for the safety and security for my son if anything happened to me I would like to know he would be able to stay in the custody of my husband and his little brother.
I have been in touch with my local council, there is a 12 month waiting list for a social worker to deal with step parent adoption.
My question is, does anybody know if a solicitor is needed to go through this process or is this something I could do by myself?
Has anyone been through this process before?
