Final hearing and getting the new certificate

Hi,
I have recently had the court date for the first hearing for the adoption of my son. I'm not sure if birth parents will try to contest this or even go to this (I'm not invited to attend, only birth parents or a representative if they wish) but if they don't or if judge decides otherwise, this could then become the final hearing and the adoption order will be granted.
I know then that this is final and will then move on to the celebration hearing, however my question is...at the point of the final hearing, does this mean that the name change (surname) will then automatically be done and I will be sent a new birth certificate? Or does something need to happen after the final hearing?

You will need to wait until you receive a letter from the registry. To order the birth certificates. In most cases the Child/rens name change will not be legally recognised by drs etc until you can produce a full birth certificate.

We waited about 6 weeks from AO being granted to receiving birth certificates.

I just wondered how it worked with name change, whether it was legally changed and just had to wait for birth certificate to change it at doctors etc. I was going to change it at his school but other places that would require proof, I'd wait for certificate. I just wasn't sure if I needed to do something after final hearing for the change of name.

It might depend on where you are, I’m in Scotland and my DC were already using their new names, which became formal after the hearing - we automatically received new birth certificates about 4 weeks after the hearing.

The name becomes legally theirs at the point the court order is granted. However, as PP said, it will take about 6 weeks until you hear from the GRO and can order a new birth certificate.
