Short certificate

I have just ordered the short and long adoption certificates. The person I spoke to informed me that for anything legal we’ll need the long one. When I asked what the short one could be used for, he said it was just for us ‘to have a copy of’.
This sounds very odd to me. What can the short one be used for?

I have yet to find a use for it to be honest!

Not a lot. It can only be used when you don’t need to prove who the child’s parents are .

If you are worried about confidentiality you can sometimes use a passport .

But for things like registering for school you need the full document called “extract from the adopted children’s register”.

Thanks both! That’s useful to know. I wish I hadn’t bothered ordering one now!

No it’s worth getting one. There are a few occasions when you can use it and not have to disclose your child’s personal information to ramdomers.
